Game modes

There are 3 different game modes : Survival, Creation, Hardcore.
​
In survival, you must get food and build a shelter before night falls otherwise the monsters will come out and kill you.
​
In creation, you have unlimited blocks and resources to build with. You will have unlimited life and monsters will not see you.
​
Hardcore mode is the same as survival. However, you have only one life and if you die the world and everything in it will be deleted so you will lose everything. I would only recommend this mode for experienced players.​
​
In each mode, you have four difficulties : Peaceful, Easy, Normal, Hard.

In hardcore mode you will permanently be kept on hard.

In peaceful, monsters will never spawn.
​
​In easy, monsters will rarely spawn.

In normal, monsters will spawn regularly.
​
In hard, monsters will spawn quite often.
​
Monsters only spawn at night or in caves at the exception of slimes and creepers.

Basic commands

 
WASD keys

the wasd keys will move you forward, backward right and left.

w = forward
a = left
s = backwards
d = right
​
​You can run by double tapping the w key if you have enough stamina.
​
The space bar makes you jump.
Holding down the left mouse button will destroy any object the cursor is pointing to. This can take time.
​
Holding down the right mouse button while holding an item will either make you eat the item, use it or place it. For example eating an apple, using a potion or placing a block.
​
When in creative mode, clicking an object with the scroll button of the mouse will copy it into your item bar.

Pressing the E key will open up your inventory.

How to survive

  Spawn point

This is where you will appear when you first go on a world. When you die, you will return to this point unless you have slept on a bed which will reset your spawn point.


Staying alive

​The hearts on your screen are your life. You lose hearts by being attacked by monsters or by falling off heights. 

The chicken legs are your hunger bar ( your stamina ). If it's full then your hearts will regenerate and you can run.

 The armour bar represents your defense it will reduce the amount of damage you get when you are attacked. There are several types of armours : leather, iron, gold and diamond.​​

Trees

The first thing you need is wood. Walk up to a tree using the wasd keys. Move your mouse so the little + is on the tree and hold down the left mouse button until the tree is destroyed. You will then see a tiny version of the block you have destroyed floating on the ground. Move closer  to it to pick it up and it will automatically go to your inventory. It will stay on the ground if your inventory is full.

Once you have destroyed all the wood in the tree, the leaves will start to disappear and might drop apples or saplings. You can replant the saplings to get more trees and you can eat the apples.

Building

You can build things with wood, dirt, stone...
To build something, you take what you want to build with from your chest or inventory and put it in your item bar (at the bottom of the screen) .

Then you must scroll through your item bar by using the scroll button on the mouse or by using the numbers on the top bar of your keyboard, press the number which corresponds to the item you want.

You then right click on the ground where you want to place the block.
​

Animals

 There are different types of animals in Minecraft. If you kill them you will get items you need to survive.
​
Chicken

Once killed, you will get feathers (to make arrows)
and raw chicken (to eat)
They will also lay eggs every 5 to 10 minutes.
You can use eggs to make cake or you can throw them against a wall or on the ground to get chicks.

Cows

If killed cows will drop leather which you can use to make armor and raw beef which you can eat.
They will give you milk if you right click on them with an empty bucket.

Mooshroom

They will drop leather and raw beef when killed.
You can get red mushrooms by shearing them with your shears.
You can get mushroom stew if you right click on them with a bowl.
You can get milk if you right click on them with an empty bucket.
Mooshroom only spawn in the mushroom biome.

Pigs

They drop raw pork chops when killed.
You can ride a pig if you put a saddle on it.
​
Sheep

Sheep will drop wool if you kill them.
They drop more wool if they are sheared.
You can dye sheep and their wool.
​
Squid

Squid spawn in water and will drop ink sacks when killed.
You can use ink sacks to dye wool and sheep black.
​
Wolf

They are found in snowy biomes and in forests. 
If you hit a wolf, all the wolves nearby will attack you.
If you feed a wolf enough bones (by right clicking on it), a cloud of hearts will appear.
The wolf will sit down, right click on it again and the wolf will stand up and follow you.
You have tamed the wolf and it will attack anything you hit.

The amount of bones needed to tame a wolf is random.
Bones are found by killing skeletons.
Once tamed, a wolf becomes a dog. You must feed it raw pork or raw beef to regenerate its health.
Wolves can be drowned, suffocated, take damage from falling and be set on fire by lava.
You can breed tamed wolves with any kind of meat and rotten flesh by feeding it to two of your tamed wolves.
Wolves will not attack creepers.


Ocelots

Ocelots will spawn in the jungle. To tame them, you  must hold a fish in front of them without moving and wait for it to come towards you.

Once close enough, feed it fish until a cloud of hearts appears.
Once you have tamed an ocelot, it will become a cat and sit down. 
You must right click on it for it to stand up. Once it is tamed, it changes its colour.
It can become a siamese cat, a ginger cat or a black cat at random.
You can breed cats by feeding two of your cats raw fish.
Cats will scare away creepers!!



 

Monsters

Zombie                                         ​ A zombie is the most basic monster in Minecraft. A zombie will attack you on sight.
Skeleton A skeleton is an archer. It will shoot you from a distance.
Spiders Spider A normal spider will only attack you at night unless you hit it during the day. They will attack you in caves during the day.  Spiders are 1 block high and 2 blocks wide so they will not fit through doors.
Cave Spider The cave spiders can only be found in abandoned mineshafts. They can poison you if your difficulty is on normal or hard. They can fit through doors.
Slime Slime can be found in 3 different sizes : big, small and tiny.  When you kill a big slime it will split into smaller slimes.  When you kill a small slime it will split into tiny slimes.  Their attack strength depends on their size, the bigger the slime, the stronger the attack.  Tiny slimes can only push you.  They can spawn during the day or night
Creeper A creeper can spawn during the day and night. It is the worst monster of them all.  It makes no noise when it walks and will blow up near you.  The attack strength depends on how close it is and the difficulty you are on. Dogs will not attack creepers. Creepers are afraid of cats!
Witches Witches spawn in witch huts.  They will throw potions at you that will slow you down and hurt you. They will heal themselves with potions.
Enderman The Enderman will not attack you unless you hit it or look at its head. It can teleport behind you and can move blocks. If you wear a pumpkin on your head and look at an Enderman it will not attack you unless you hit it. They can not teleport in or to water.

Crafting

To survive in Minecraft, you will need to craft a lot of different objects.

For example, when you destroy a tree, you will get wood. You can put the wood in your crafting box in your inventory (top right) and get wooden planks which you can use to make sticks and all sorts of different things.
